SCACCO ALLA REGINA / CHECK THE QUEEN

In a Babel-like mix of artistic contemporary languages animating the city of Venice with the Biennial Exhibition approaching, the new association 22:37 opens its way tuning in five voices. Five young women who express their artistic expression with equal effectiveness and bravery. Each one, at their own way, shows that tension which is necessary to assert their own point of view when the games are almost over. Check the Queen shows a reflection on art and on its rules, meant as the personal language of the artist and as the fixed rules that manage the connection between artwork and artist, the viewer and production and consumption of art. The exhibition gives question marks in which the user has to reflect.
The artist is the most powerful piece on the chess-board, if she is forced to a lock position she doesn’t escape the danger, she fights daring, firm, quickly and with bravery. She would be able to overturn the game.
Check the Queen is set like a pause, a slowdown, a way to get the artist and the public in the game, in which the public has an active list in the interaction with the artwork.

The work Door by Rosaria Boemi is a piece of jewellery too weak to be wear and with a strong evocative power. It seems that Boemi wants to take the glass to the limit of its physicalness, putting herself and the viewer in a strained condition not obliged fragility typical of the material and of its make.

Elvira Biatta exhibits three canvas: Cut and Sew, Coincidences, Testicles, Jacopo and Lollipop. Inspired on Georges Bataille’s work The Solar Anus. Words-images-bodies which accumulate, as well as Carol Rama’s testicular springs, slaughterhouses and butchers, shoes, half pieces, but without that malaise. Rather Elvira seems to enter the obscene, scandalous and embarrassing into Barbie Doll’s house to see what happens, also reaching interior patterns of dream and subconscious, winking at Surrealists.

Chiara Fumai shows Ex, a group-portrait installation of her ex-boyfriends represented as a series of dolls hanged on the wall. They are individually characterized by hairstyle, clothes, accessories, as a series of attractive, ridiculous, teenage love’s fetishes: little toys, parts of the artist’s multiple identity, irreverent and reflective at the same time. Her irony lead us to reflect on which is our role in reality, and which is the role of woman in contemporary art. Her sharp and mocking game becomes for us a measure of a world above the accepted rules that she’s able to subvert.

Silvia Giambrone in her video Inheritance wears eyelashes made of iron wire and tin. Heavy material, the metal is resistant but flexible. Is the form of narration, the narrative of desire, the result of private or personal creativity? Or does it depend on social context? Does its stimulation need something apart from this? The artist investigates the game of seduction, which is realized through a psychological mechanism through an individual try to attract another in order to get a relationship or a sex intercourse or any other typical immaterial benefit.

With the happening Art to Handle, Stefania Migliorati leads us to reflect on the usability of art suggesting the breaking with the traditional concept of collecting. Artwork can be touched with our fingers, carried in the pocket, exchanged, used. Art collector is like a child who exchanges picture-cards with friends, making fun of that aura beloved by Walter Benjamin. The pocket-sized card can be copied, used, damaged. Its Here and now consists in the moment when people enters in possession of it, taking an active part during the performance.
